Hillary and Sophie’s interfaith lesbian wedding was surreally magical. From the dreamy Camp Laurelwood venue to Fairy Meadow Flowers‘ ephemeral and riotous floral arrangements, every detail felt like stepping into a movie. A very queer, very colorful movie. Wedding planner extraordinaire Regina Burrus (of Weddings by Regina Marie) was at the helm, which means the whole event came together flawlessly. And it was quite the event.
With over two hundred guests, Hillary and Sophie’s wedding centered around the amazing community they’ve built. This community consists of family, both the ones they were born into and the ones they’ve chosen. There was so much love and connection between their people: it made me grateful to be in these magical humans’ orbit, myself.
This was also an interfaith wedding. Sophie chose to add elements of her Christian faith, while Sophie wanted to add some Jewish traditions as well. (Check out their gorgeous Ketubah–one of the most stunning documents/pieces of art I’ve ever seen.) By choosing to center spirituality and tradition, Hillary and Sophie created an incredibly meaningful and personalized ritual to celebrate their union.
Hillary and Sophie are extremely kind-hearted and generous of spirit. They are both also hella smart. Like, do not mess with these two attorneys. So you can be assured that their friends and family are of the same ilk. Their toasts, therefore, were both extremely well-written and incredibly moving. Hillary’s dad even surprised them by singing a song. (Make sure to look at those photos. It was so sweet.)
All in all, this wedding was unforgettable. A summer camp-themed lesbian wedding in the woods. Doesn’t get much better than that.
And do you SEE that red wedding dress!? JUST saying. Do Your Thing. Do It Proud.
