Shawna and Jo: Madison, WI Queer Engagement Session

I met Shawna and Johanna (Jo to most people) at one of my LGBTQ photo pop-ups in Madison, Wisconsin, and in the ten minutes I spent with them they made a HUGE impression on me. They are both hilarious–Shawna is literally a comedian, and Jo has a devilish streak on full display when she’s near Shawna. They had come to the pop-up for photos of the two of them as a well as to get a headshot for Shawn’s upcoming comedy show.

While we were doing their mini couple session, I had Shawna whisper something in Jo’s ear about how she had felt when they had first met. Obviously, I couldn’t hear what she said (but oh man, I wish I could have). I’ve never seen wider eyes or a more scandalized expression in my life than the one on Jo’s face, listening to Shawna’s whispered memory. It was hilarious. When I started laughing, they started cracking up, and before I knew it they were in tears and had somehow managed to trip over each other and had fallen to the ground cackling.

So that was my first experience with these two. Soon after this, they got engaged and asked me to do a real engagement session (and to photograph their wedding–yay!).

We met at one of my favorite lakeside parks in Madison, Wisconsin and I was able to capture some of their fun, silly, romantic, steamy love (they have it all).

I’ll write more about these two when I blog about their wedding–there is much to say, all wonderful, and I’m happy I’ll have the chance to spend more time with these two and brag some more about what badasses they are.
