Valerie and Nate’s ‘Sex and the City’ inspired wedding at Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown, Connecticut had it all: fashion, family, and fabulous dancing. Valerie wore two different dresses, which just added to the visual feast, and Regina of Weddings by Regina Marie artfully crafted an upscale, classy setting in shades of cream, gold, and green. (You can see more of this adorable couple in their Waveny Park engagement session.)
The couple got ready at the nearby Inn at Middletown, where Valerie’s longtime best friend helped put the finishing touches on her hair while I took detail shots of her Carrie Bradshaw-inspired Manolo Blahnik heels, Tiffany ring, rose accessories, and Rose 31 perfume. Nate arrived early to the Wadsworth Mansion, where he had a drink with his groomsmen as they waited for the rest of the clan to arrive.
Valerie chose to take family and bridal portraits upstairs on the balcony just as the winter sun was setting. It was cold, but the air felt clean and the sky was clear. As soon as everything was ready downstairs, Valerie descended the staircase and stood waiting with her mother (who helped drop her veil over her face).
Ariana Strings set the musical stage for the bride’s dramatic entrance into the ceremony room; all eyes were on Valerie as she processed up the aisle with her mom. The groom’s face was calm and proud as he watched her come towards him. They had forsaken a first look in order to have THIS be their first moment together.
Following their ceremony and family photos in front of the fireplace, I took Valerie and Nate outside briefly for a few nighttime wedding portraits in front of the mansion. We were quick, though, as they wanted to get back inside to spend their cocktail hour with friends and family (and to see the upscale, classic décor they had planned brought to life in the reception room.)
After toasts and parent dances (Valerie’s dance with her mom felt particularly sweet), Valerie changed into a more form-fitting lace dress. You can’t have a Sex in the City-themed wedding without an outfit change!
The reception was glamourous without being at all stuffy. It was full of life, dancing, toasts, and hugs. Both families joined in heartily in traditional Portuguese dancing, and the bride and groom couldn’t keep their eyes (or hands) off each other. Everyone had a blast.
