This rowdy lesbian wedding at Wickham Park and Urban Lodge Brewery defied all expectations. It was OFF THE CHAIN fun and rambunctious, which I frankly had no way of expecting. During our calls leading up to their wedding, Jess and Elisha were nothing short of professional, extremely organized, and straightforward. Little did I know how loud, hilarious, WONDERFULLY rowdy and fun-loving they and their entire group of friends are! This wedding was full of intention and meaning, from the most thoughtful and emotional to the most fun loving and humorous. (Two of their best people came down the aisle before the ceremony with a cooler full of shots, in order to help people cool off and chill out. It was BLAZING hot that day.)
The outdoor ceremony was a symphony of alternating laughter and tears (both partners can write a damn good vow). Everywhere I looked, people were wiping their eyes or cracking up. WHAT a joy. The reception followed at Urban Lodge, where Jess and Elisha and all the staff had done SO much work to create vignettes that reflected the couple. There were also fun things to do. Jess had set up a glitter station (!) and throughout the night, more and more people seemed to have sparkly faces.
Often, I’m blown away by toasts because I learn things about the couple they would never volunteer to me. (Usually they’re too humble to brag about all their crazy accomplishments, which their parents or friends have no problem doing.) In this case, though, it was the emotional weight of the speeches–the impact the fathers’ toasts had on their daughters–that knocked my socks off. SO MANY TEARS. And then the father daughter dances? I’ve rarely seen any so sweet and full of love and joy.
And then, of course, the tenor changed again, and the entire wedding let LOOSE in a crazy fun dance party. My ears are still ringing. This was a banger with serious heart. These guys know how to throw a party, and their people showed up for ALL the feels.
