Kevin and David’s peacock-themed gay wedding at the Society Room of Hartford was an extravagant affair complete with sequins, floating flowers, and nods to 1920’s opulence. The Society Room proved to be the perfect venue for the indoor evening ceremony, elegant seated dinner, and raucous reception afterwards.
I met Kevin and David through one of David’s best friends, whose wedding I shot several years ago. It felt like a full-circle moment seeing Kate and her wife, Ray, now parents, supporting Kevin and David at their wedding.
I had SO much fun with the wedding party. They cracked jokes and made each other giggle all through their Vanity Fair inspired photos. Each bridesmaid and groomsman got to choose how to style their ‘sequined luxe’ attire. No forced dresses or suits here. (This is one of my favorite things about queer weddings. No one is forced/coerced into wearing something that doesn’t align with their gender presentation.) As such, everyone looked (and felt) authentic AND hot. We took these photos, along with family portraits, before the ceremony to ensure the couple was able to spend quality time at their cocktail hour afterwards. The vibe was fun and relaxed.
The ceremony began with two of the groomsmen flitting down the aisle as flower-men. (This is a trend that I’ll never get tired of.) Once everyone else had processed, Kevin and David descended the elegant Society Room staircase together, modeling how they’ll spend the coming years. Silence fell over the room as their friends and families watched with tear-filled eyes and warm smiles. (Warmth is a good word to describe their general energy. Cozy, comfortable, and kind.) Tears and laughter alternated throughout the ceremony, and after they smashed the glass and kissed as groom and groom, the entire place erupted with cheers.
During cocktail hour, we photographed the beautiful peacock-themed details, including a tall wedding cake festooned with jewel-toned petals and feather. The tables were set with darkly gleaming feather and leaf garland, tall vases with elegant flowers, and gold plates and napkin rings. Family and best friends gave speeches, people burst into impromptu dancing and clapping, and the dancefloor was packed the entire night. Kevin and David are so well-loved and they love well. It was plain to see the entire day. I wish you two so much happiness!
