Miki was looking to do something brave and vulnerable for a graduation portrait shoot that centered body positivity, queer celebration, and joy. They wanted a portrait session that would acknowledge the journey they’ve been on and celebrate the major accomplishments they’ve achieved–graduating from Yale being just one of them.
This is the kind of portraiture the feeds my heart.
We had so much fun playing with light, color, clothing, and music. I used a black backdrop to highlight the gauzy material of their dress and the curves of their body. We played music and Miki danced and moved. Something came alive in the studio as a result.
When someone is open-minded and open-hearted and willing to play, it never ceased to amaze me what kind of magic can happen. A kind of alchemy is born of subject, photographer, and light.
If you have ever dreamed of a portrait session that might awaken something within you–if you’ve dreamed of being seen and documented in a way that aligns with some sense of inner truth–you are my kind of person. Let’s create something magical together. Let’s showcase your inner fire.
