Mel and John’s Art Deco Inspired winter wedding at New Haven Lawn club incorporated so many totally them, DIY elements and elevated them to a truly extravagant guest experience. This was one of the most exciting weddings of the year for me. Visually, they leaned into the New Haven Lawn Club’s Art Deco motif and designed a glitzy, glam winter wedding with deeply hued florals, upscale dress, extensive candles, and an amazing dancefloor complete with giant cut-outs of their cats’ heads.
What stood out to me, as a participant in this wedding and also as someone who experienced it, was how much they let go. They planned and tinkered and designed and HOLY CRAP did it pay off. (Mel was the main flower designer; they had their seating arrangement chairs laser printed; everything was perfectly curated to align with the venue’s architectural theme.) But once all that work was done? They CHILLED THE EFF OUT. The energy when I walked in the door was low-key, fun, and effortless–and this energy buzzed through the entire event. It allowed guests to feel relaxed and at home, even in the elegant environment, and it made for SUCH A FUN, carefree, memorable wedding!
