Some couples are super extroverted, rambunctious, silly, and have overall big personalities. And some couples are quieter, more reserved, with a softer, gentler energy between them. Annaly and Joel fit more into the second category, and it made for such a serene, beautiful session with the two of them.
I tend to be somewhat of a wavelength chameleon, mirroring people’s energy level without really trying to. Bubbly people have called me bubbly; calm people have told me how calm I am. Frankly, if I have a camera in my hand, I’m usually in that magical experience called Flow, so I tend to get in the groove with whomever I’m working with.
That’s why working with this strong, sweet couple was such a lovely experience. There was no anxiety. No stress. No drama. Just getting to know these two incredible people throughout our cozy winter shoot at Edgerton Park in New Haven. They were kind and good to each other and to me, and even though it was subtle, I loved the underlying playfulness between them, and the strong tie of family I gleaned from witnessing an excited, impromptu video chat with a family member who was expecting a baby. (You can probably tell which photos I grabbed of that moment below!)
This was such a charming session in one of my favorite places in New Haven. Annaly and Joel, I wish you two such a happy marriage and future together!
