Leila and Megan: Holyoke Queer Engagement Session

Where do I even begin with these two?

I truly enjoy every couple I work with–I’m not just saying that. I make a real effort to make sure we’re a good fit before I ever book with couples, so I’m usually pretty sure going in that we’re going to get along.

Sometimes, however, when I meet up with new clients, it feels like I’m seeing old friends.

Leila and Megan were SO easy to talk to, and we had lots of common ground to cover: similar communities, common experiences, and even–they held this bit of information until the end–friends in common who I didn’t know about! (One of my favorite things about queer communities: despite the geographic distance, there’s usually 3 degrees or less of separation between any of us. It’s a thing.)

We met up at Mount Holyoke in Western Massachussetts, a school that means a lot to both of them, and together we walked to a serene, wooded pond surrounded by an easy-to-access to trail. Regardless of how well we get along, I’m never sure how open couples will be with me when the camera comes out. It’s a very vulnerable position to be in, publicly displaying affection in front of someone you don’t know very well.

To my great joy, Leila and Megan were open, fun, and expressive in their love for each other and were oh-so generous with their trust in me. I was also super happy to see that they listened to my suggestion and brought a giant bag full of different coats, hats, and accessories: this can really add value to a session, because it offers us a much larger variety of final options.

We had beautiful, filtered late-fall light, a beautiful and truly loving couple, and a photographer–despite fingers that grew more and more numb as the minutes went on–was totally in the zone.

I love these photos so much, and I adored our session. Leila and Megan: I can’t wait for your wedding, and I’m so grateful you two found your way into my life!
