Sam and Scott were incredibly laid-back, chill…just plain cool…on the day of their couple’s session in Essex, Connecticut. You can tell just by looking at them that they have a particular brand of effortless style others desperately seek. And yet, they are the opposite of arrogant. They’re actually both a little self-conscious—a quality rare in people who look like this—which drew me to them immediately. I felt like I could be myself with them, the way I could be myself with my high school friends back in the day. There was a familiar lack of pretense about them that I really, really loved.
These two have a young daughter together and don’t have much opportunity for alone time, so it was special to have an hour that was just about them and their love. (This experience is always different when the couple has children; it’s usually all about the kids, so when the adults have a chance to reconnect, it is even more meaningful.)
We got a beautiful, balmy Connecticut evening and a gorgeous spot for photos. Once we got into the groove, and they realized they could actually be romantic together without having to run and change a diaper, we got some pretty amazing images. I loved watching their evolution throughout the session: from harried parents who had worked all day to the couple who had fallen in love in the first place. I felt honored to witness this moment in their story.
