Devonna and Nick are the sort of couple that brings to mind that very 80’s phrase, “still waters run deep.” I feel ridiculous writing that, but it’s so true I’m keeping it there.
Neither one of them is super outgoing or overly chatty. Instead, on the surface, they are pleasant, kind, and seem not to sweat the small stuff. But this is the fun part about getting to spend this rather heightened length of time with people–I learn a lot about them, fast. Way more than just making small talk in a coffee shop.
I realized with these two that there is a LOT going on beneath the surface. And that they can communicate most of it with each other without saying a word. I learned that they are careful, and not terribly demonstrative, with people (read: they have great boundaries); and I learned that when they’ve decided you’re ok (as it seems they did with me) they are able to make you feel like one. Million. Dollars. I learned that they have supportive, involved parents who they spend a lot of time with. And I learned that they are very neat and tidy. If they choose to have children, they will make excellent parents, for all of these reasons and many more.
I thoroughly enjoyed our intimate in-home engagement session. They played along with my at-times ridiculously enthusiastic coaching and, towards the end, started to let the silliness out–I do not for one second believe this is a serious household. And their devotion to each other is crystal clear. I harbor no doubts about the success of their upcoming marriage.
I wish you guys the very best luck–it was such an honor working with you, and I hope to do it again in the future!
