Katie and Heather: Inn at Middletown Connecticut Wedding

So. I knew this wedding was going to be a blast, and I was absolutely right. It’s honestly hard NOT to have a great time when you’re around Katie and Heather. Katie is in-your-face, totally not a wilting flower, and her powerhouse energy is enough to wrangle a crowd and command a room. She’s a total joy to be around. And Heather, while less overt, has a smile so contagious I watched it literally spread around the room at various points throughout their wedding day. She’s also a ton of fun–you can see for yourself in the dancing photos.

After spending time with these two during and after their engagement session last fall, it felt really special to meet their doting friends and family. Their friend group is amazing–so cohesive and supportive–and deeply familiar to me. They were more than friends; they were truly chosen family. I could see the multi-leveled bond between them in every look and gesture, and you can see it for yourself below.

The wedding was at the Inn at Middletown, and the photo ops were endless. Rarely have I enjoyed taking dress photos as much as I did there. Katie and Heather chose to do a first look before the ceremony, reading letters each had written to the other back to back before turning to face each other. It’s hard for me in moments like that to stay objective and removed–after all, I’m the one allowed to witness this moment and it’s my job to document it–but I’m feeling all the feels and getting choked up right along with them! The plight of falling in love with my couples.

The ceremony was nothing but smiles and happy tears (ok, a LOT of happy tears) coming from every direction. They were both radiant up there. Afterwards, I saw more hugs in the span of ten minutes than I maybe ever have; LOTS of endorphins pumping into that beautiful room!

The dance floor was packed pretty much from the get-go, and you can almost hear the music pumping through the photos. Since the wedding, Katie and Heather keep hearing from their friends how fun their wedding was (I can concur, and I’ve been to a lot of weddings). Katie’s response? A scoffing, “Aren’t weddings supposed to be fun? Duh!” I love it. I’m looking forward to seeing these two start a family together, and I’m selfishly grateful we met because they have become friends. Which makes me happy. Because they’re awesome.
