Couple’s Flower-Filled Wedding on a Connecticut Family Farm

This couple’s flower-filled wedding on a Connecticut family farm was unforgettable. As a couple, Meg and Peter have a rare kind of laid-back ease and sense of self. Their wedding reflected their love of nature and of people, and the atmosphere could not have been more joyful or supportive.

Months before their beautiful farm wedding, we spent time together at Peter’s dad’s farm for their engagement session. It allowed us to get to know each other, and it introduced me to the sprawling, bucolic landscape that would host their midsummer wedding. I introduced them to Jessica of JH Events to help them plan their farm wedding. Jess is an incredible wedding planner who specializes in non-traditional venues, i.e. homes, farms, and other locations that aren’t typically set up for large events. When planning a backyard or farm wedding, it’s crucial to work with someone who understands the logistics that make these events work.

Meg and Peter wanted to have a fun wedding where people had a blast. That was their biggest goal. Case in point: they rented a bounce house and giant bubble machine for a child-free wedding. Adults were encouraged to embrace their inner kid, and it WORKED. People were having such a joyful, fun time the whole day.

We also lucked out with the weather. It could not have been a more beautiful summer day. Warm, sunny, not too hot…and the night brought a cool breeze into the beautifully decorated tent.

Which brings me to the décor. Meg works for the CT Flower Collective, and flowers are extremely important to her. With the help of several industry friends, she designed and created the florals for the day. Pails of wildflowers sat by welcome signs; the arch was dripping with gorgeous, naturalistic flowers, and the table vases buzzed (literally) with elegant summer blooms.

The reception was a riot, complete with heartfelt toasts and a raging dancefloor. When it was time for us to go, we weren’t ready to leave. SUCH a joy.
